Black mold is a fast growing fungi that can very easily growth within walls, even in many different weather climates. So is black mold dangerous? Black mold has many different forms and classifications when it comes to how dangerous it is, some are even more likely to grow within your home due to the indoor climate.

There are some versions of black mold that may cause small side effects such as a stuffy nose or coughing, almost all mold can cause stronger side effects to people with asthma, mold allergies, or weakened immune systems.

With toxic black mold, there are several causes for black mold to grow within your home and once it develops inside of a home it will begin to become toxic to your health. This happens because the black mold begins to release mold spores and toxins into the air, known as mycotoxins. These toxins can then enter into the human body and lungs.

Different Kinds of Black Mold

The different types of black mold are more likely to develop in indoor environments such as homes and offices. The two most common types of black mold are Stachybotrys Chartarum and Aspergillus Niger. These two main variations of black mold will produce varying toxins into the environment that can range from small to severe side effecis in many cases.

Stachybotrys Chartarum

The black mold known as Stachybotrys Chartarum, is a mold that grows in damp environments and thrives on cellulose. This blakc mold has several health side effects when it is exposed to an indoor environment, such as skin inflammation, coughing, runny nose, cold and flu-like symptoms, headaches, and fatigue. Due to these symptoms, this version of black mold is to be considered a more toxic form of black mold, making it more dangerous when exposed to humans.

Aspergillus Niger

The other main version of black mold is Aspergillus Niger and is known to grow in a home and produce less severe side effects compared to other verions. The side effects of this black mold accumulating in you home can include aggravation to allergies and asthma, and potential infections of the respiratory system.

Mold In The Air

Black mold is notorious for it’s ability to release toxins within the air which can lead to side effects to those exposed to the mold. The pollutants that black mold releases is known as mold spores and mycotoxins, these become airborne and have varying impacts to the conditions in the space. Once these pollutants have been released it will depend on a number of factors in the environment how it will take effect.

Black mold at first has a coating that will typically help to prevent the spores from becoming airborne. Once the coating drys out it will promote the release of the mold spores into the air. Another factor is changing the levels of humidity in your home, this can trigger the release of black mold spores into the air. When black mold is disturbed by attempting to remove the mold, it can cause mold spores and toxins to be released into the air and lead to a toxic indoor air space within the home. • I recently discovered a mild mold problem in my crawlspace and begin my search for a company to remediate. Fresh Air Tech. seemed to have the best treatment plan for my situation and was the most competitive when it came down to the price. I had the mold removed/sprayed with prevention chemicals, crawlspace cleaned with a new vapor barrier and a dehumidifier installed. I didn't know what to expect never having to deal with this before but I can ensure you these guys do not cut corners and did an excellent job. The cleaning crew (3 guys) arrived about 8AM and were under the house until about 4:45PM cleaning and sanding taking a quick 30 minute lunch break around noon. They returned the next day to install the vapor barrier and to finish cleaning up. The dehumidifier also comes with a monitor that displays the temp and moisture level down in the crawlspace which i thought was pretty cool. Excellent job, thanks again team.
